What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a musculoskeletal manual therapy that is designed to enhance and restore health and musculoskeletal function. Osteopathy is a unique ‘hands-on’ approach for the diagnosis and treatment of all kinds of pain, discomfort and immobility. It reduces the stress on your body and prevents issues from re-occurring. Osteopathy’s main strength lies in the unique way the patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint with the manual methods of treatment applied to suit the needs of the individual patient.
Osteopathy is a holistic therapy, meaning we treat the body as a whole and not as simply one part of the body. Osteopathic treatment assists the body with increased mobility, allowing the body the opportunity to heal itself and preventing the condition from recurring. It recognizes the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions.
Our principles and techniques
The key principles are based on all parts of the body functioning together in an integrated manner. If one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body must adapt and compensate for this, eventually leading to inflammation, pain, stiffness and other health conditions. Osteopathic techniques are safe, gentle and effective. They include soft tissue massage, stretching, muscle energy technique, functional joint balancing, joint articulation, manipulation, and other indirect modalities.
